What goes underneath patio pavers?
A typical sand-set paver installation includes prepared soil, a compacted aggregate base and a bedding layer beneath the pavers. The exact materials and preparation depend on the site and the selected paving system.
Why is a compacted base important?
The base supports the finished surface. Proper preparation and compaction help reduce uneven settling and give the paving system a stable foundation.
What is bedding sand?
For a sand-set installation, bedding sand is the layer between the prepared base and the pavers. It provides an even bed for placement and does not replace proper base preparation.
What does it mean to screed a paver base?
In a sand-set installation, screeding usually means drawing a straightedge over the bedding material to create an even surface at the planned grade before laying the pavers.
What keeps pavers from moving along the edge?
Edge restraints help contain the outside of the paver field. The appropriate edging and installation method depend on the paving system, adjacent surfaces and how the area will be used.
